Anabolic androgenic steroids in the treatment of acquired aplastic anemia.

P ROGNOSIS in aplastic anemia has improved since the introduction of testosterone therapy.1 This androgenic hormone has proved very useful in the treatment of children with congenital and acquired aplastic anemia,1-5 but appears to be less effective in adults with the same disorder.#{176} Oxymetho1one79 and other related steroids4’1015 have recently been used in place of testosterone with good results in children and adults, as is shown in the present report of 14 children and 55 adults with acquired aplastic anemia treated with different anabolic androgenic compounds.
